Job Description

McKesson Medical-Surgical (a $10 billion dollar division of a top employer in healthcare), is seeking a Director, Business Development to join our Pharmaceutical (Rx) Category Management team.

McKesson Medical-Surgical's pharmaceutical product revenue has been growing at above-market rates as we expand our market share with our customers. Our goal is to build and maintain a robust product pharmaceutical portfolio to service the needs of our physician office and ambulatory surgery center customers. This position will work in partnership with the Rx Category Management team to build our strategy of which products and therapeutic areas we want to bring into our portfolio to accelerate our growth. The Director, Rx Business Development will work directly with pharmaceutical manufacturers to effectively communicate the value of a partnership with the McKesson Medical-Surgical team and then lead the launch of these products through our channels.

This role requires experience with pharmaceuticals in the physician market and a deep understanding of the market dynamics and drivers, including understanding the unique needs of our customers. Strategic thinking, communication, problem solving, collaboration, and relationship management are daily aspects of the role.This role will work across the McKesson enterprise to ensure coordination and a unified message to our manufacturer community.

This role reports to the Senior Director, Rx Category Management.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct market analysis to identify areas of largest opportunities and pipeline development for Medical-Surgical's pharmaceutical growth.
  • Manage ongoing pipeline of all current and emerging Brand / Specialty pharmaceuticals that will be entering the market.
  • Establish relationships with key manufacturers and lead discussions and negotiations for product access before handing to Category Management for contracting.
  • Understand the full value of McKesson (Medical-Surgical and full Enterprise) and passionately convey this to targeted manufacturers. Clearly outline and effectively communicate the value McKesson Medical-Surgical can provide.
  • As products are added to the portfolio, develop launch business plans, strategy, and goals and coordinate hand-off to internal teams for implementation.
  • Collaborate closely with Field Specialists and Sales to generate leads and increase business opportunities.

Minimum Requirements

*10+ years of relevant experience. Less years required if has relevant Master's or Doctorate qualifications.

Critical Skills

*5+ years experience evaluating industry trends, understanding long-term implications, and recommending strategies for new business opportunities

*Experience negotiating with pharmaceutical manufacturers

*Sales experience within a pharmaceutical setting

*Effective communication skills with a large variety of audiences, both internal and external*4-year degree in business, finance, marketing, supply chain or related field preferred; or equivalent experience.

Additional Skills

*Excellent communications skills and the ability to develop rapport and credibility across the organization, promote ideas and proposals persuasively

*Strategic and analytical thinker

*Strong project management skills

*Excellent problem-solving skills

*Advanced proficiency with MS Office (PowerPoint and Excel- Pivots, VLOOKUP's, etc)

Education: 4-year degree or equivalent experience

Physical Requirements: General office demands

Travel: Up to 50%

This is determined by several factors, including performance, experience and skills, equity, regular job market evaluations, and geographical markets. In addition to base pay, other compensation, such as an annual bonus or long-term incentive opportunities may be offered.

Our Base Pay Range for this position

$133,700 - $222,800
