HDR is looking for a Senior Electrical Engineer to join our growing power team in Michigan.

Primary Responsibilities:

The Senior Electrical Engineer position candidate should have experience within the industrial, utility, and renewable power industry and be capable of leading teams for power generation design projects as well as work in a traditional Owner's Engineering role. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in power distribution, power generation, motor control, auxiliary power studies, lighting, grounding, specification writing, studies, scheduling, and cost estimating. Interest and experience in the exciting market of renewables is very desired. In addition, the candidate will be expected to support managing client relationships and supporting marketing activities including proposal development in response to requests for proposals. A significant level of design-build work experience with power plant systems is desired.

More detailed duties:

  • Coordinate the work of Electrical Engineers with the balance of a multidiscipline team throughout the entire project's development
  • Establish client relations, and participate in the marketing, design and production meetings with regard to electrical systems
  • Assume the electrical lead on many projects
  • Participate in reviews with various governing agencies for code compliance
  • Conduct schematic, design development and contract document work sessions at the project site in conjunction with the Project Manager, Project Architect and other disciplines
  • Coordinate workload through the entire project development to complete documents on schedule
  • Track the financial aspects of projects, and coordinate and adjust the work effort with the team to ensure that the work is completed within the parameters of the agreed-upon schedule
  • Work with the Project Manager and Regional Controller for project reviews with corporate management as needed
  • Direct the activities of other electrical engineering professionals, and act as a mentor to other staff members as needed
  • Perform other duties as needed

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited program
  • Professional Engineering License
  • years related experience preferred in the power industry
  • Candidate must have excellent communication, written and organizational skills.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to work independently, as a lead on a multi-discipline consulting team, or as a lead on a small team are required
  • Protection and control design experience, include drawing & settings development desired
  • Field experience, including startup and commissioning, experience is desired
  • Strong computer knowledge and electrical design software (ETAP, SKM, etc.)
  • Experience in renewable energy (PV, BESS, etc.) and DER or "microgrid" projects is highly desired
  • Instrumentation and Controls experience particularly with DCS and PLC systems is a plus
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must
  • Position will include an expectation of less than 10% travel for meetings with clients and vendors as well as project site visits
  • Extensive knowledge of three-phase electrical power, protection and control design, system grounding, physical design, and experience with other activities such as lighting and signal design, including life safety systems and building management systems
  • Strong computer knowledge of Microsoft Office and AutoCAD, and electrical design software
  • An attitude and commitment to being an active participant of our employee-owned culture is a must

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering or Architectural Engineering with an Electrical emphasis
  • Local candidates preferred.
  • Previous experience with an architectural/engineering or engineering consulting firm desired
