Overview
Utah State University Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS; https://www.usu.edu/aggiewellness/mental-health) and the College of Veterinary Medicine (CVM; https://vetmed.usu.edu) are seeking a Wellness Specialist for the CVM. The position will be housed at a CAPS Satellite Office located in the CVM. The Wellness Specialist will maintain dual reporting lines to CAPS Director (primary supervisor) and the CVM Associate Dean for Academic Programs. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who thrives in a collegial work environment that values collaboration, inclusion, and trust. This a full-time, benefited, 12-month position on the USU-Logan campus.
The Wellness Specialist provides counseling (consultation, intake, and therapy) for veterinary students, crisis assessments and interventions, and outreach programming on mental health and well-being. The position will be student-centered with program development initially and as the student population grows, it will become heavier on providing clinical services. The position will involve the implementation of outreach programming centered around student success, and a sense of belonging and community within the college. This position offers multiple opportunities for professional development in outreach programming.

Responsibilities
Clinical services (40%):
Provide individual and group counseling for students in the college (both face-to-face and teletherapy), clinical consultation (triage appointment), intake, assessment, and crisis interventions. Conduct drop-in hours for CVM students. Prepare for sessions and maintain accurate and up-to-date records of clinical services.
Outreach services (35%):
Design and implement outreach and prevention programming to students, staff, and faculty focused on topics such as study skills, stress management, test anxiety, conflict management and effective communication strategies. Assist in planning student orientation activities in the CVM.
Other professional responsibilities (25%):
Other essential duties include: 1) providing input in the development and implementation of the new curriculum, especially concerning student mental health and well-being; 2) providing instructional support in the professional skills courses in the DVM degree curriculum; 3) effectively participate in administrative and professional activities (e.g., CAPS staff and division meetings/trainings, conferences, peer consultations, professional development, etc.); and 4) serve on college and university committees when applicable. The qualified applicant will have the option to engage in scientific research.
The individual is expected to foster excellent working relationships with co-workers; increase knowledge, develop new skills or abilities that contribute to effective service provision; practice all responsibilities in accordance with ethical and professional standards and state laws; understand and comply with CAPS and University policies and procedures; and fulfill all other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
- For hire as a Clinician I:
- Masters degree from an accredited social work, counseling, or other mental health-related program, and a clinical license to practice under supervision in Utah (e.g., CSW, ACMHC, AMFT, Psychology Resident).
- For hire as a Clinician II:
- Masters degree from an accredited social work, counseling, or other mental health-related program, and a clinical license to practice independently in Utah (e.g., LCSW, CMHC, LMFT).
- OR a doctoral degree in clinical, counseling, or combined psychology from an APA-accredited doctoral program, and a clinical license to practice under supervision in Utah (i.e., Psychology Resident).
- For all levels:
- Generalist base of knowledge and experience in psychotherapy (including teletherapy), (i.e., theories, processes, and elements of therapeutic change) and familiarity with developmental and other non-medical models of treatment and supervision.
- Experience in a university counseling setting and/or experience in areas related to the mental health needs of a diverse college population (e.g., eating disorders, anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, personality disorders).
Preferred Qualifications:
- Full licensure in the state of Utah
- Experience in providing psychoeducational workshops relevant to the campus community.
- Experience with teaching and program development.
- Experience in providing supervision.
- Awareness of and respect for cultural, individual, and role differences, including those based on age, gender, gender identity, race, ethnicity, culture, national origin, religion, sexual orientation, disability, language, and socioeconomic status, and an ability to consider these factors when working with members of such groups.

- Skills with technology.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to work and coordinate with CAPS clinicians and to work effectively as an independent and self-motivated, professional staff member.

About the College of Veterinary Medicine:
Currently, the USU CVM participates in a "2+2" program with the College of Veterinary Medicine at Washington State University and the broader Washington - Idaho - Montana - Utah (WIMU) Regional Program in Veterinary Medicine that provides instruction to 30 students in each class cohort. However, in 2022, the State of Utah approved the establishment of a full 4-year DVM degree program at USU with the goal of admitting its inaugural class of 40 students in the fall of 2025 and supporting a class size of 80 veterinary students in subsequent years.

Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS) is part of USU's Division of Student Affairs. CAPS has been accredited by the International Accreditation of Counseling Services (IACS) since 1996.
